Nina Nuñez, director of compliance and institutional assessment, and Vanessa Richardson, executive director of student affairs, have been accepted to the 2020 Harvard Macy Institute course, “A Systems Approach to Assessment in Health Professions Education.” As Harvard Macy Scholars, Nuñez and Richardson will learn to apply systems thinking in assessment programs that can support the continuous quality improvement of students, faculty, and curricula at academic health science institutions.
The intensive six-day program will take place at Harvard University in March. The Harvard Macy Institute was established in 1994 in a collaborative effort between Harvard Medical School, Harvard Business School and the Harvard Graduate School of Education to provide professional development and inter-professional collaboration to healthcare professionals, education and leaders. In addition to attending interactive presentations, workshops, case discussions, small group journal clubs and institutional planning groups, Harvard Macy scholars receive one-on-one consultations with Harvard faculty experts.
As part of the application process, Nuñez and Richardson submitted a proposal to develop an assessment model for career counseling services. It can be difficult to assess the success of counseling services because outcomes are often qualitative and dependent on student experiences.
