Burrell College Students Advocate for Healthcare at Las Cruces Day

Students from Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine took center stage at this year’s Las Cruces Day in Santa Fe, using the event as a platform to advocate for healthcare reforms. More than 200 attendees, including Burrell College students and faculty, engaged with state legislators to support policies that could significantly improve healthcare accessibility and medical education within the state.

“Las Cruces Day is an opportunity to advocate for health,” said Dr. Scott S. Cyrus, D.O, FACOP, Chair of Clinical Medicine and Clinical Medicine Clerkship Director of Pediatrics at Burrell College. “Burrell College students are leading the way by pushing for initiatives that will ensure a healthier future for New Mexico.”

The annual event, organized by the Greater Las Cruces Chamber of Commerce, brings together community leaders, professionals, and advocates to discuss the most pressing issues affecting Las Cruces and Doña Ana County. By participating, Burrell College students reinforced their commitment to addressing healthcare challenges and improving medical education across the state.

“I was incredibly proud to see our students participate in Las Cruces Day. Their enthusiasm and dedication to advocating for healthcare initiatives demonstrate the values we instill at Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine. Seeing them engage with state leaders and represent the future of medicine was truly inspiring,” added Dr. Cyrus.
