BCOM Hosts Borderplex Alliance Distinguished Speakers

On November 8, the BCOM campus hosted The Borderplex Alliance’s 2018 Distinguished Speaker Series. The Series brings internationally recognized leaders to the North American Borderplex to discuss the most relevant issues impacting the U.S.-Mexico Border. The speaker for the November event was  Antonia Novello, MD, 14th Surgeon General of the United States. Dr. Novello was also the keynote speaker at BCOM’s inaugural White Coat Ceremony in August 2016. BCOM President John L. Hummer said, “We were honored to host this series for the Borderplex Alliance and to again welcome Dr. Novello. Her inspirational message of embracing diversity was received with a standing ovation.”

Other speakers in the Borderplex Alliance’s Distinguished Speakers Series have included Mark B. Grier, Vice Chairman of Prudential Financial; Ernesto Zedillo, former President of Mexico; Honorable Joe Straus, Speaker of the Texas House and Texan of the Year; U.S. Senator John Cornyn (TX); and Alejanda de la Vega Foster, Secretary of Innovation and Economic Development for the State of Chihuahua.
