Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine Admissions Director, Courtney Lewis, has been elected as Secretary of the Council of Osteopathic Medical Admissions Officers (COMAO) under the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM).
“I’m humbled to have been selected to serve fellow COMAO members in this capacity, alongside the elected Chair, Vice-Chair, and AACOM representatives,” says Lewis. “I look forward to this opportunity to foster continued collaboration between our many institutions, as we seek to increase awareness of osteopathic medicine and advocate for applicants and current medical students across the nation.”
The Council on Osteopathic Medical School Admissions Officers (COMAO) Mission states their responsibilities include, “promoting osteopathic medicine and osteopathic medical education, to serve as osteopathic medical student advocates, advising AACOMAS on policies and procedures relative to member services, and provide recommendations for improvement of student service practices in cooperation with the Board of Deans.” The COMAO consists of Admissions and Recruitment governance from every D.O. COM/SOM, in conjunction with AACOM delegates and a few select, non-voting, pre-health advisors from undergraduate institutions. The elected COMAO representatives meet with AACOM delegates on an ongoing basis to discuss relevant issues.
Lewis’s election was announced this April and her term will run for one year.
