Meet Ashley Rocks, a third-year student at Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine and a proud recipient of the Yates Scholarship! In this inspiring video, Ashley opens up about her journey through medical school and her experience managing Type 1 diabetes, which she was diagnosed with during her first year. This personal challenge ignited her passion for improving healthcare access in rural communities, where resources are often limited. Ashley is excited to pursue a residency in New Mexico, with a focus on pathology, and is committed to making a lasting impact on healthcare access.
As Ashley shares, “Going into medical school, I was very concerned about how I would be able to pay off my loans. In my first year of medical school, I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, so on top of trying to do all my classwork, I was also trying to find treatment. That really showed me firsthand how resources are lacking in rural communities and how much I want to contribute to increasing medical access.”
A huge thank you to the Yates Scholarship Foundation for supporting Ashley’s mission to improve healthcare in underserved areas.
