Laura Francois, a third-year student physician at Burrell College of Health Sciences, will serve as International Affairs Co-Chair on the Student National Medical Association’s 2026-2027 National Board of Directors.

In her new role, Francois will help oversee SNMA’s global health initiatives and expand opportunities for medical students to participate in global health work.
“I’m really honored and excited for this opportunity,” Francois said. “My journey with SNMA started with founding our chapter at Burrell and grew into regional leadership, and now a national position. None of this would have been possible without the work we’ve done on campus and in our local Brevard County community to build meaningful partnerships and create opportunities for service and advocacy.”
Originally from Palm Beach, Florida, Francois earned her undergraduate degree in public health and French from the University of Miami. At Burrell College, she served as the chartering president of the college’s SNMA chapter and vice president of the Family Medicine Student Organization.
Francois previously served as vice chair of SNMA’s national committee during the 2025-2026 academic year and was recognized as Burrell’s Global Scholar of the Year. She hopes to pursue family medicine, with a focus on improving health literacy and access to care for marginalized communities.
As International Affairs Co-Chair, Francois will build on her previous leadership experience to help expand global health opportunities for medical students nationwide.
