Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine Class of 2029 Honor Code
Preamble: We, the Class of 2029 at the Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine, hereby abide by this Code of Honor, which reflects the values of Service, Excellence, Community, Integrity, & Inclusion. In abiding by this Code of Honor, we commit to keeping the mission of our institution at the forefront of our character. This Honor Code reflects who we are, who we aspire to become, and how we will hold ourselves and one another accountable along the way. “Para la gente, y el futuro”, “For the people and for the future”.
Service
- Compassion & Empathy
- As future physicians, we recognize that we will meet people in their most vulnerable moments, and we pledge to approach each individual with compassion, humanity, and humility.
- We will respect the diverse backgrounds, identities, and beliefs of others and value the unique perspectives they bring to our community.
- “Para el futuro”, “For the future”
- We stand firm in our lifelong commitment to serve as both student physicians and future physicians for all communities.
- We dedicate ourselves to acts of service that advance the greater good and promote the well-being of all people, both throughout our education and in our future practice.
Excellence
- Professionalism – Code of Professional Conduct
- We will ensure to adhere to the honor code, maintain an environment of professionalism and respect, and embody these aforementioned ideals in and out of the classroom.
- Class Behavior
- We will ensure to maintain a supportive, collaborative, and constructive environment with peers. We stand committed to ensuring professional conduct in the ethical collaboration with peers, without malevolence, and the furthering of our studies when working with others.
- We will respect the environment we are in and keep our shared spaces clean, be mindful of our shared study spaces and the surrounding area, and be respectful of noise levels in consideration of others. When there are “Exam in Progress” boards posted, we will be mindful of noise levels in the hallways to ensure a favorable testing environment for our peers.
- We will ensure to use microphones during class time whenever communicating with professors so that both campuses can be heard. We will be mindful when asking questions during class, keeping questions on topic, and being mindful of the time allotted for instruction versus questions
- We will show respect to Burrell staff and faculty by cleaning up after ourselves and taking empathetic actions, and further strive to keep our facilities in order.
- Upholding the Osteopathic Tenets
- We will keep the Osteopathic Tenets at the core of our education and daily practice, integrating them into our studies and interactions with others. We recognize that the body is a unit, and that each person is a unity of body, mind, and spirit. Through this holistic philosophy, we strive to embody the principles of osteopathic medicine in all that we do.

- Kindness
- We will create a community where kindness guides our actions, especially during the stress of medical school.
- We will choose patience over frustration, encouragement over competition, and understanding over judgment. We acknowledge that in times of high stress, it is easy to default to negativity. However, we promise to always lead with kindness towards others, even in the most challenging situations.
