Medical Student Summer Research Experience
Overview:
The purpose of the Summer Research Experience is to provide Burrell College medical students the opportunity to participate in Burrell College faculty-driven research and creative scholarship during the summer. This experience is designed for students that are interested in enhancing their research proficiency outside of the formal class structure. Participants will engage in mentored research and creative scholarship during a 6-week summer experience by working closely with a Burrell college faculty member. Student participants are matched with a faculty mentor in an area of interest and will assist with the execution of the project. The Summer Research Experience will begin on May 28, 2024, end on July 3, 2024, and will culminate with Medical Student Research Day, which will be held during the Fall semester of 2024 (exact date TBD).

Expectations:
This experience aims to mentor participants in the practice of designing and implementing research and creative scholarship; therefore, participants are expected to dedicate full commitment to the project. Although the conditions and demands will vary from project-to-project, student participants are expected to attend Orientation Day, actively engage throughout the duration of the 6-week experience and attend summer workshops, and present their findings at Medical Student Research Day.

Medical Student Research Day:
Medical Student Research Day (MSRD) is an annual, one-day event that will be held on Burrell College campus. MSRD celebrates medical student research accomplishments and provides the opportunity for student participants to present their research. Participants of the Summer Research Experience are required to present their research projects during a formal session to fellow students, faculty, judges, and other attendees. Presentations will be judged, and awards will be given for the best presentations. MSRD schedule of events also includes an inspiring keynote address.
