Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine 's Sid Alvarez Accepting Awards on behalf of Burrell College

Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine received multiple Excellence in Communications Awards at the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM) 2025 Educating Leaders Conference in Arlington, Texas.

Burrell College earned top honors in two categories: first place for its Social Media Campaign, The D.O. Pulse Podcast, and first place for Best Video, Harnessing Horsepower – Dr. Mary LaCaze Teaching Compassion with the Help of Horses. Burrell College also received second place for Best Advertising Campaign for its Standardized Patient Recruitment initiative.

This marks the second consecutive year that Burrell College has taken the top spot in the Social Media Campaign category. In 2024, the college received first place for Advertising Campaign, first place for Social Media Campaign, and third place for Best Video. This year’s results once again place Burrell College among the top three in three separate communications categories.

“This recognition reflects the dedication of our communications team and the powerful stories shared by our students, faculty, and staff,” said Sid Alvarez, Assistant Vice President of Marketing and Communications. “It’s an honor to help bring these voices forward.”

The awards, presented annually by AACOM, celebrate outstanding marketing and communications efforts among colleges of osteopathic medicine nationwide.

Burrell College President John Hummer credited the teamwork behind the campaigns. “These awards underscore the creativity, collaboration, and commitment of our team,” President Hummer said. “We’re proud of how effectively we’ve shared the mission and values of Burrell College with the broader community.”

Key contributors to the award-winning projects include Christopher Espinosa, Videographer; Jose Leon, Communications and Alumni Specialist; and Sam Turner, Web Developer and Graphic Artist.

The Excellence in Communications Awards program recognizes strategic storytelling and innovative outreach that advance the osteopathic medical profession and highlight the contributions of its institutions.
