Burrell College of Health Sciences School of Osteopathic Medicine (BCSOM) is expanding its clinical education network with the opening of a new Regional Academic Center (RAC) in Brooklyn, New York. The College’s first cohort of 11 third-year student physicians is beginning clinical rotations at hospitals within the One Brooklyn Health system.

We are grateful to One Brooklyn Health for welcoming our students and helping us educate the next generation of osteopathic physicians.”
Through the new partnership, Burrell College student physicians will complete rotations at Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center, Interfaith Medical Center and Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center. One Brooklyn Health is the New York State Department of Health-approved co-operator of the three medical centers, which serve communities throughout Central and East Brooklyn.
The students will gain hands-on clinical experience in surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, internal medicine, family medicine and emergency medicine. Working alongside physicians and other healthcare professionals, students will apply the knowledge and skills developed during their first two years of medical school while participating in the care of patients from a wide range of backgrounds.
“Our students will be learning within a dynamic healthcare system that serves one of the most diverse populations in the country,” said Muneer Assi, DO, Associate Dean of Clinical Education, Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine and Clerkship Director for Internal Medicine at Burrell College. “The breadth of clinical experiences available through One Brooklyn Health will strengthen their medical knowledge, clinical judgment and ability to deliver compassionate, patient-centered care. This partnership also gives students the opportunity to learn from physicians who understand the unique needs of the communities they serve.”
The Brooklyn RAC becomes the newest addition to Burrell College’s network of clinical training locations. The College works with hospitals, medical centers, community clinics and practicing physicians to provide comprehensive clerkship experiences for third- and fourth-year medical students. Burrell College’s existing RACs support clinical education across New Mexico, Texas, Arizona and Florida.
One Brooklyn Health brings together an integrated network of hospitals, ambulatory care centers and other healthcare assistance serving Brooklyn. Its member hospitals have longstanding connections to their communities and operate as important healthcare and safety-net institutions.
