The Coalition for Osteopathic Excellence Appoints Shawn Bassham as New Executive Director


(Melbourne, FL)  — The Coalition for Osteopathic Excellence (COE) is pleased to announce the selection of their Executive Director Shawn Bassham, M.Ed., FACHE, CFRE. The COE is a 501c3 with the mission to improve healthcare by providing financial support of medical education and health related endeavors for students attending the Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine. Ms. Bassham lives in Rockledge, Florida and will serve the students in Las Cruces, New Mexico and Melbourne, Florida.

“Ms. Bassham’s appointment as Executive Director is a significant step forward for our communities and students,” said Dr. William Baker, DO, and Chairman of the COE Board. “Her ability to collaborate with community and business leaders will be invaluable in generating the resources needed to support our alumni and current students. We are confident that her leadership will create new opportunities and strengthen the network that benefits our entire osteopathic community.”

Ms. Bassham spent the last 23-years working within healthcare and non-profits for the March of Dimes, Wyoming Medical Center Foundation, Kootenai Health and St. Francis Reflection Reflections Hospice and Palliative Care and has 10-years of working with higher education, behavioral health, non-profit and volunteer organizations.

“When I consider the need we have for physicians within our communities I can see no better mission than to help students as they pursue their dream by providing them with support for their medical education. Philanthropy solves problems for the future, and I truly see how these aspiring medical students will bridge the gap and help to solve the physician shortages across the country,” said Ms. Bassham.

Additionally, Ms. Bassham has consulted with various nonprofits to help improve the way they manage their operations and develop their infrastructure and best practices. The focus of her expertise is in healthcare non-profit and holds two significant certifications – Certified Fund Raising Executives and is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.

Ms. Bassham is a life-long learner and with the landscape of healthcare rapidly changing she stays ahead of the trends and looks to find ways to solve the issues within the organizations she serves. Her academic career includes a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in higher education administration. Her early career includes working within higher education in various Student Affairs roles. She currently resides in Florida’s Space Coast region with her husband Richard and is honored to be a member of the Rockledge Rotary Club.
