Director Adrian Grünberg chose the medical school’s state-of-the-art facilities to film several hospital sequences for the movie, which follows Nikki, a former war hero, as she races to rescue her kidnapped daughter while evading both military forces and law enforcement.
Several Burrell students appeared as extras, including second-year student Emily Stern.
“I loved acting in small school performances in high school and college, so it was so cool to be part of an actual movie,” Stern said. “I never thought I’d have an opportunity like this in med school, so I’m glad I went for it!”
Second-year students Weston Stokey, Oscar Castillo, Sage Lauderback, and first-year Kyle Abrantes also took part, playing medical personnel and background characters.
Jeff Harris, associate vice president for administration at Burrell College, said the production team was impressed with the school’s facilities.
“Our campus was the perfect setting for the film’s hospital scenes,” Harris said. “It was exciting to see Burrell featured in a major motion picture, and our students really enjoyed the experience.”
With Protector set to hit theaters soon, Burrell students and staff look forward to seeing their school—and themselves—on the big screen.
