Robert Goldsteen, DO, FACP

Dr. Goldsteen is a Professor of Internal Medicine and is the Chairman of the Division of Clinical Medicine at Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine in Las Cruces, New Mexico.

Dr. Goldsteen attended Washington University in St Louis for his bachelor’s degree, then University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine and Primary Care while on active duty at William Beaumont Army Medical Center in El Paso. During his time in the US Army, Dr Goldsteen served as a Chief of Internal Medicine at the US Army Medical Center, AL and was a lead flight surgeon PROFISed to the 101st Airborne Division. Dr Goldsteen was also a member of the core group of the US Army Aeromedical Advisory Panel which formed national medical policy for aviators.

He completed a tour at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and was an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Uniformed Services Medical School in Bethesda, MD where he was awarded the Leonard Award for Excellence in teaching. Dr Goldsteen then transitioned to civilian life and spent 12 years as an Associate Professor and later Professor at University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas.

He was a long-term lecturer, ran resident morning report, was an inaugural mentor member of the “Advisory and Teaching Colleges”, and mentored a group of students through their years of medical school for 10 years. He taught them clinical skills weekly through the first two years and continued with them on clinical rotations. He was also a core member and a Co-director of the Clinical Medicine Course at UTSW, teaching the medical students at UTSW. Dr Goldsteen was the Director of the Parkland Center for Internal Medicine which was the residency clinic for up to 165 UTSW residents per year in Dallas and managed a large cadre of teaching faculty. Dr Goldsteen also taught in the UME curriculum as well and as inpatient and clinic attending. He also practiced in the ambulatory setting at this time in the faculty clinic at Aston at UT Southwestern. He then transitioned to a Program Director and started a Residency in Internal Medicine in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina (Affiliated with the University of South Carolina and the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine) as well continuing in clinical practice. After his 4 years in South Carolina and as Professor of Medicine at both institutions, Dr Goldsteen transitioned to New Mexico in 2018. He has been Chairman of Preclinical Medicine, Chairman of Clinical Medicine, and Chairman of Primary Care at Burrell over the past 7+ years. Dr Goldsteen enjoys the outdoors, finance, working with his hands, and many intellectual persuits. He lives with his wife and two daughters in Southern New Mexico.
