Music in Medicine Shares Holiday Cheer Through Song

The halls of the Las Cruces Wellness and Rehabilitation Center were filled with warmth and harmony this week as Burrell College’s Music in Medicine student organization shared Christmas carols with residents. With each song, the students brought joy, comfort, and a sense of festive community spirit to those spending the holidays in care.

“Music has an incredible ability to heal the mind, body, and spirit all at once,” said Karishma Craig, student physician. “We wanted the residents to feel seen, supported, and reminded that they are never forgotten—especially during this time of year.”

With upbeat holiday classics, residents sang along, clapped, and even requested favorites as the future doctors students offered  musical cheer.

Alexis Reyes, Activities Director at the Las Cruces Wellness and Rehabilitation Center, said the visit made a meaningful impact. “Music reaches people in a way nothing else can. It lifts their spirits, eases loneliness, and brings a sense of togetherness. Seeing the residents light up reminds us how important these moments are.”

In a season centered on connection, Music in Medicine helped show that healing comes not only from medicine, but from compassion, presence, and the simple power of song.
