Technical Support Assistant
Burrell College is creating a pool of Technical Support Assistants who will assist with the educational delivery between the Las Cruces, NM and Melbourne, FL campuses. Several individuals would be identified as a part of this pool, and would be assigned tasks based on the college needs and individual availability.
What is a Technical Support Assistant?
Burrell College uses synchronous tools like Zoom to link our Las Cruces, NM and Melbourne, Fl campuses together. The Technical Support Assistant is responsible for helping to make sure these classes are set up and ready to go each day. That involves coming to the campus before each class session, logging into the classroom computer and AV system, testing local microphones and cameras, and bringing up the instructor’s PowerPoint and/or other content. Coordination with the “other site” is a critical part of making sure that everyone is ready to go on both campuses when students and instructors are ready to start classes in both Las Cruces and Melbourne. The Technical Support Assistant may also assist with monitoring the Zoom session for problems, managing chats, and other related support activities. During some events, there may be some light furniture arranging as rooms may need special setups for particular events.
When do I work?
There is a 2-hour window every weekday for synchronous events. This is 8am to 10 am in Las Cruces, and 10 am to noon in Melbourne. The Technical Support Assistant would arrive at least 30 minutes prior to that window, and make sure that everything is set up and ready to go prior to the start of class. Punctuality and dependability are crucial to the educational delivery – so these are important skills. Other sessions and times may be needed and would be scheduled individually. This may include an occasional weekend.
