Roles and Responsibilities

• Serve as a forum for staff to share concerns or recommendations with leadership.
• Promote engagement by creating opportunities for interaction among staff, faculty, and leadership.
• Advocate for professional development by recommending opportunities to leadership.

As the liaison between staff and leadership, the Staff Council is responsible for:

• Presenting relevant information to leadership during Executive Committee meetings.
• Providing regular updates during College Town Hall meetings.
• Ensuring staff concerns are communicated clearly and effectively to leadership.

The Council also keeps staff informed about ongoing events and initiatives through:

• The Bear Beat newsletter
• Monthly Email Blast
• Digital displays and artwork
• Outlook calendar invites
• Email communications

Health, Wellness, and Connection Through Staff Council

Staff Council is committed to fostering a supportive and connected community by providing monthly health and wellness initiatives through thoughtfully planned activities and presentations. These events offer a wonderful opportunity for staff to share knowledge, connect across departments, and strengthen relationships across both campuses.

In 2024, Staff Council made significant strides in promoting wellness, launching a variety of creative and engaging activities, including, but not limited to:

• Bi-weekly walks
• Chair yoga
• Painting on the patio
• Bingo & root beer floats
• Indoor and outdoor games
• Meditation sessions

These initiatives reflect our belief that a happy, healthy staff contributes to a stronger and more collaborative work environment.

Departmental Information Sessions

To further enhance communication and collaboration, Staff Council partners with departments across the college to host Monthly Departmental Information Sessions. Each session spotlights a specific department, featuring:

• An overview of the department’s purpose
• Introductions to team members and their roles
• A presentation in the department’s unique style and voice

These sessions not only increase awareness of departmental functions but also encourage cross-campus engagement and appreciation.

Building Community, Celebrating Participation

Staff Council takes great pride in the events and initiatives we’ve sponsored throughout the years. We are continually inspired by the strong participation from staff, faculty, and leadership alike.

As we look to the future, we are excited to continue promoting meaningful events and walking side-by-side with our fellow staff members, strengthening our community, one initiative at a time.

Staff Council Members

Our staff council consists of 12 representatives that span across 2 campuses and represent all departments within the colleges. In addition, some council members serve as representatives in other councils. We strive to provide staff near and far the opportunity to participate in group events and grow with their fellow Burell staff members.
