Professionalism
- As student doctors, we will conduct ourselves appropriately. Actions reflect on ourselves, our classmates, and our institution. We represent Burrell and a community of medical professionals, and should behave as such.
- We represent Burrell in class and outside of class.
- Representation of Burrell extends into online spaces, and any online presence will be conducted in a mature and professional manner in accordance with Burrell’s code of conduct.
- Be conscious when posting your classmates on social media, as not everyone may feel comfortable with being posted.
- Be mindful when wearing the school logo and how your actions may be perceived in conjunction with your affiliation with Burrell.
Class Behavior
- Be mindful of others’ time and space in the lecture hall.
- Limit side discussions during the lecture.
- Exit the room quietly while the lecturer is presenting or responding to questions, even if the lecture is running over time.
- During lecture, ask on-topic questions that will be beneficial to everyone; remember you can use office hours for more in-depth or off-topic questions.
- Be quiet when walking past exam rooms and be mindful that some people start the exam earlier; if the “Exam In Progress” signs are up assume that people are actively testing.
- Utilize microphones in both campuses during lectures and seminars so that everyone can hear the questions.
- To promote clear communication, make sure both campuses know when technological issues arise and are resolved.
Shared Spaces

Respect
- Demonstrate respect for people within the Burrell community and beyond it.
- Uphold Title IX and report any violations to the appropriate channels.
- Give constructive feedback and receive feedback professionally.
- This extends to conversations about inclusion and respect. Talk to classmates if they are using outdated and/or inappropriate language without assuming any ill intent.
- Conversely, we should be open to changing the language we use in response to feedback.
- Foster a collaborative and inclusive environment.
- Respect how others dress and choose to present themselves.
- Be accountable for your own actions and behaviors. Acknowledge and address mistakes and try to learn from them.
