Students Present Research at Emergency Medicine Conference in San Diego

BCOM medical students Stephanie Ayala, OMS-II, and Eli Johnson, OMS-II presented their research poster at the American Academy of Emergency Medicine 2018 Scientific Exhibition in San Diego, CA. “We also attended some of the emergency medicine presentations, talked with emergency medicine residents, and attended the medical student track where we learned strategies for applying to residency and doing well on rotations,” Ayala said.

Ayala and Johnson worked on the research project, “MRSA & Medical Students: A Longitudinal Cohort Study,” along with fellow BCOM students Christopher Hooshmand, Marlina Ponce de Leon, William Lay, and Andrew Ortega; BCOM faculty members Michael Woods, Ph.D., and Debra Bramblett, Ph.D.; UTEP student Samantha Meza; and UTEP bioinformatics professor Delfina Dominguez, Ph.D.

Ayala, Lay, and Ponce de Leon also presented the poster at the American Medical Student Association (AMSA) national convention in Washington DC in early March.
