BCOM’s Florida Campus:

Two of the nation’s leading institutions of higher education are working together to bring the Space Coast its first medical school. The Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine and Florida Tech entered into an affiliation agreement to establish a four-year osteopathic medical school on the university’s Melbourne campus.

Burrell College and Florida Tech executive leadership announced the plans at a press conference Jan. 12 at the university’s Denius Student Center. Over the past three years, Burrell has operated a regional academic center in Brevard County for medical students’ clinical clerkship rotations, where 34 BCOM third- and fourth-year students are currently conducting clinical rotations. Based upon the success of this regional academic center and the positive relationships established with key stakeholders, the natural next step was to develop an additional four-year medical school location in
Florida. The college has been granted permission by the American Osteopathic Association’s Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation to recruit students to the Florida campus. Other required approvals could come as soon as late summer 2023.
